Tater’s Lowcountry Kitchen + Catering
Tater’s Lowcountry Kitchen is a Charleston-based culinary and hospitality brand rooted in Gullah Geechee heritage, Lowcountry tradition, and bold, memorable food.
Since 2023, Laurin Legare has served as co-owner of Tater’s Lowcountry Kitchen alongside Executive Chef Janae “Tater” Coaxum, helping shape the company’s growth from a takeout-focused restaurant concept into a broader hospitality, catering, and culinary experiences brand.
What began as a takeout-focused concept has grown into a broader hospitality and catering brand known for its signature fried blue crabs, seafood-driven dishes, Lowcountry favorites, private dining, corporate catering, cultural events, and culinary activations. Tater’s has built a loyal following by pairing recognizable Lowcountry flavor with a strong sense of place, culture, and hospitality.
Chef Tater leads the culinary vision, bringing bold flavor, tradition, creativity, and a deep connection to Gullah Geechee foodways to the menu and guest experience. Laurin leads the business side of the brand, including strategy, operations, brand development, marketing, growth, partnerships, customer experience, systems, and long-term positioning.
Laurin’s role has been central to building the infrastructure behind Tater’s. Her work has included developing the brand identity, strengthening market visibility, creating operational systems, shaping the customer journey, expanding catering and private-event opportunities, building partnerships, and helping position Tater’s for growth beyond the walls of the restaurant.
Together, Laurin and Chef Tater have built Tater’s as more than a place to order food. It is a Charleston culinary brand and hospitality platform designed to celebrate Lowcountry culture, preserve and share Gullah Geechee-inspired food traditions, create meaningful guest experiences, and bring that story into restaurant service, catering, private dining, festivals, cultural programming, and special events.
Today, Tater’s serves the Charleston and greater Lowcountry market through its restaurant operations, corporate and social catering, private dining, culinary activations, and community-centered hospitality experiences.
